Reilly - Whitianga
Designed 2011 & built 2012, continuing into 2013. A Jazz Cafe downstairs with owners apartment upstairs. A large building of over 500m2 on a corner beachfront site in Whitianga. Concrete tilt slab construction was used for the main structure for several reasons. Quickness of construction, fire rating between the two tenancies,weather tightness & earthquake resistance. Unispan midfloor system was used in conjunction with steel beams. A conventional timber framed construction was used for the top storey. Asphalt tiles on plywood for the roof. Cedar weatherboards for the remainder of the cladding. The concrete tilt slabs have a plastered & painted surface, while the 3 full height panels are coloured aggregate finish.
Beer - Whitianga
Designed early 2009 and built that same year. The site of only 400m2 with maximum site coverage of only 140m2. However a practical home with all amenities was achieved. Open plan living with 1 bedroom & ensuite downstairs, along with a double garage & laundry. Upstairs has 2 bedrooms with a shared bathroom.. The stairs brings you to an open study & family area. All this in 200m2 + 10m2 deck. This in turn has access to the sun filled deck, as does 1 of the bedrooms. The roofing is asphalt tiles on plywood. The cladding is a combination of Linear weatherboards & plastered polystyrene. There is also some feature stonework of the front of the dwelling.
Bonner - Whitianga
A large holiday home of 336m2 plus decks overlooking Mercury bay Designed late 2005 & built 2006. Basement double garage, with games room, laundry & storage A concrete midfloor providing a large deck, finished in coloured concrete. The ground floor has lounge, kitchen, dining 2 bedrooms & a large bathroom. The top floor in the main bedroom with ensuite. Purpose designed stainless steel handrailing & posts set a nautical theme. The owners continued the beach theme with their furnishings.
Down - Whitianga
Designed & built in 2008/2009. The floorslab & two walls all that remain of the existing residence! A modern holiday home with all the latest electronic gear built in. The owners have their own space upstairs with the bedroom, ensuite & a separate lounge. The garage is decked out with a bar & carpet on the floor. A separate room for the storage of the boat!
Gayford - Tairua
Designed late 2004 & built over a number of years. A large home of over 300m2 plus 80m2 of decks. All concrete construction, with Firth Hotbloc for most walls & Unispan concrete floor system. A complicated house with at least 10 different floor levels throughout the three floors. Even the stairs from the basement to the top are insitu concrete. It also has a glass carrier lift. The kitchen benches are also made from coloured concrete. A blockwork swimming pool completes this home by the sea.
Henry - Hahei
Designed early 2006 & built 2006/2007. A huge house of over 500m2 plus 125m2 of decks. A steep site overlooking Hahei, with well established trees which had to be protected thru out the building process. With restrictive access to the site, a large retaining wall at the bottom was constructed first. Then the swimming pool, after which the house itself started! The basement consists of 2 bedrooms, bathroom , laundry, large family room with bar, cellar and a sauna. A concrete midfloor to the lounge dining kitchen & main bedroom with ensuite all opening onto the decks. Behind these rooms are a guest bedroom with bathroom facilities and an entertainment room. Upstairs is a office/study and the entrance which is accessed via a bridge from the driveway. A lift services all floors,but the curved staircase from the entry to the lounge area holds centre stage. High quality materials were used throughout this project.
Jackson - Whitianga
Designed late 2004/early 2005 Built 2005 by owner. 254m2. Steel frame to the lounge, dining kitchen area. Concrete block wall runs the full length of the house through the axis acting as a heatsink. This results in a very warm house. All the service rooms are behind this wall gaining heat. Exterior cladding consists of a mixture of linear weatherboards & titan board with negative detail. A very user friendly layout with the lounge/dining/kitchen area as the central hub. The master bedroom & ensuite to one side & the two other bedrooms & bathroom on the other.
Kite - Whitianga
Designed 2009 & built 2009/2010. A concrete tilt slab construction of approx 250m2. The ground floor has double garage with laundry/bathroom, kitchen, dining, lounge, 2 bedrooms with a shared bathroom. Upstairs has the main bedroom with ensuite. An office space is at the stair lobby. A feature is the concrete cantilevered stair treads. Also the long kitchen bench is also of coloured concrete. High sloping ceilings to the lounge, dining & kitchen give a spacious feel. The use of timber for the dining/kitchen ceilings add some warmth to the concrete house, while the same timber was used for the kitchen & bathroom fittings to give a connected look. This is a very warm, maintenance free home
Titchmarsh - Matarangi
Designed in 2003 & built in 2004. A large retirement home for a farming couple. 272m2 plus over 70m2 of decks. The owners criteria was for a no fuss, maintenance free home. The basement consists of the double garage, laundry & bedrooms with bathroom & living space for the visiting families. Upstairs, consists of lounge, dining, kitchen, main bedroom & ensuite, plus a sewing room for the owners hobby. This home allows plenty of time for the husbands passion of golf!
Vickers - Whitianga
A large house deigned in 2007 and meticulously built by the owner over a number of years. It consists of 312m2 of house plus 44m2 of boat canopy. During construction a 25m2 music room upstairs was added in 2009. A double garage with a separate workshop, 3 bedrooms & study plus a large open kitchen/dining/lounge. Built on a concrete floor with many concrete piles to anchor it to the steep site. The back yard is extensively retained to give the appearance of the flat site. The main cladding consists of brick veneer, with the smaller areas in weatherboard. An asphalt tiled roof on plywood adds to a quiet environment inside.
Woodd - Whitianga
Designed 2007 & built 2007/2008 400m2 of house with 100m2 of decks all overlooking Mercury Bay. All floors are of concrete Unispan construction. The exterior consists of plastered blockwork & aluminium weatherboarding. The basement has 3 bedrooms opening onto a lounge for the children. A kitchenette, bathroom & large laundry complete this floor. Midfloor/groundfloor has the double garage, office, down some steps to the kitchen, dining, lounge area. A guest bedroom with a bathroom is also on this floor. Up top is the main bedroom with a large ensuite. High quality materials were used throughout this project
